What they should have discussed at the COP29 in Azerbaijan:
Even if, magically, people would stop releasing any greenhouse
gases, feedback loops would continue to heat the earth and
destabilize the climates. Examples of feedback loops include ice
melting everywhere, permafrost releasing greenhouse gases,
forests becoming dryer, dying, and burning, warming oceans
absorbing less CO2, and the earth reflecting less sunlight.
Discussed plans will hardly prevent rapidly increasing deaths due
to weather catastrophes, and mass migrations with world-wide
violence before 2050.
The following should have been addressed: To absorb much
CO2, the world should plant 1.2 trillion trees (2019 study at
ETH university, Zurich); and, additionally, bamboo, kelp, and
other fast-growing plants. We may greatly slow or prevent the
decomposing of plant and other organic materials in order to
sequester carbon. According to my reading of scientific data we
can minimize decomposition by storing organic material dry, ice
cold, or buried in anoxic environments (deep underground or in
salt-bog-like conditions).
Wood and bamboo can largely replace concrete and steel in
the construction of buildings, bridges, vehicles, train cars, etc.,
halting the release of much CO2 and sequestering carbon. Along
with such measures, we must save energy and resources in every
way possible, building ultra-light electric vehicles with rain-sun
protection, dense networks of high-speed trains and light-rail lines
(most narrow-track); transitioning to plant-based diets including
lab-grown meat and milk; using extreme white; cooling paint to
minimize need for air conditioning; curbing the abuses of data
gathering, artificial intelligence and bitcoin (which is basically a
Ponzi scheme); etc .
These needed broad changes will hardly happen unless
governments take the lead, working with public-private partnership
non-profit enterprises.
People must learn how dire the present situation is, how spurious
present plans are, and that there are real solutions to start cooling
the earth. They must then demand radical government responses,
restructuring much of our economy.
People must also learn that with much less consumerism, living
simply, being generous, forgiving, cooperative, caring, and
compassionate, they will be happier and healthier.

What the Climate Action Summit 2024 does not discuss: The feable responses to global warming amount to a slow but accelerating genocide.
Planned economic activities continue to make densely populated areas unlivable and to destroy ecosystems, which indigenous people of many areas depend on.Scientists, activists, authors, science journalists and leaders of NGOs, please help with educating people! We do not need decades to start reversing global warming! And we will be happier and healthier if we live more simply, avoid credit buying, focus on ethics and recognize that the pursuit of wealth and power often become addictions.
We must not ask “what is politically possible?”, but “what is needed?” and then demand decisive government actions – a law akin to the War Powers Act is probably needed.
A goal has to be saving resources and energy in every way possible. We must broadly use cooling white paints to minimize the need for air conditioning; transition to mostly plant-based diets; build ultra-light electric minicars and a dense network of trains, many narrow track light rail; and, instead of concrete and steel, use mainly wood and bamboo for buildings, vehicles, rail cars, bridges, wind turbine towers, etc. (by weight, cross-laminated timber and bamboo are similarly strong as steel).
The earth needs much more vegetation: we must reforest large areas, expand mangrove forests and cultivate fast-rowing plants, such as bamboo, kelp, and duckweed. And we must prevent the rapid decomposition or burning of organic materials, including landfill trash. Organic material may be kept in dry, ice-cold, or anoxic environments, for example buried in earth that is immersed in stagnant water. Governments must establish and fund public-private partnership nonprofit enterprises to transform industries, transportation systems and land management; bank lending must be severely restricted. People need a guaranteed income and comprehensive safety net. There must be high taxation on all greenhouse gas releases, including methane leaking from oil wells, and on wealth.
